The CSF
The CSF is a self-regulatory organization whose mission is to protect the public. It contributes to the proper functioning of the financial sector by ensuring the professionalism of its 34,000 members. Thus, the CSF oversees the ethics, discipline, and continuing education of financial services advisors.
Over the past 25 years, the CSF has taken action on many fronts, always staying close to the realities of both consumers and its members.
Who are the members of the CSF?
They are all professionals working in Quebec as financial security advisors, group insurance and annuity advisors, financial planners, mutual fund representatives, and scholarship plan representatives. They work in financial institutions or as independent representatives.
Why should you consult a professional who is a CSF member?
Because the CSF’s mission is to protect you. How? By ensuring that your advisor always acts in your best interest. Like all professionals in Quebec, they are required to complete continuing education and to practice within a strict ethical framework.
Preparing to meet with an advisor
Start by checking if your advisor is a member of the CSF and authorized to practice. Since they need to know you well to guide you properly, be ready to talk about your personal situation and goals. Also, gather any documents they may need to advise you wisely. Have a great meeting!
If in doubt, you can seek recourse
Your advisor must propose the best strategies based on your situation, priorities, and goals. If you feel you’ve been wronged, report it to our syndic, who will investigate to determine the appropriate actions and whether a complaint should be filed with the Disciplinary Committee. Rest assured that the CSF implements the most appropriate mechanisms to ensure public protection.
