CSF Training Day draws large number of financial services advisors
Montreal, October 10, 2024 - The Chambre de la sécurité financière's annual training day, “ProLab 2024”, drew close to 400 participants today at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. This unique event featured master classes with renowned university professors from the Institut National de Recherche Scientifique du Québec, HEC Montréal, Université Laval and Université de Sherbrooke, followed by four conferences from Quebec personalities Farah Alibay, Olivier Bernard, Sophie Brochu and Daniel Lamarre. The event was hosted by Élyse Marquis, who also hosts the CSF podcasts.
The CSF began by offering master classes in partnership with four leading institutions of higher learning. Workshops to encourage exchange and respond to the ongoing evolution of the practice of CSF members were offered at the advisors' choice. These themes, focusing on human and relational aspects, were also drawn from the issues and challenges experienced in the field by advisors:
- “Leadership entrepreneurial, là où la performance et l’humain cohabitent”, presented by Robert Dutton, associate professor at HEC Montréal.
- “Les enjeux humains, déterminants dans le succès du transfert d’entreprise”, presented by Maripier Tremblay and Gabriel J. Power, full professors at Université Laval.
- “Le robot financier: allié de l'intelligence humaine”, presented by Patrick Mignault and Arthur Oulaï, full professons at Université de Sherbrooke.
- “La boussole conjugale: favoriser l'équité financière au sein des ménages”, presented by Hélène Belleau, full professor at INRS and holder of the Chaire argent, inégalités et société.
Then, in the afternoon, all participants heard presentations by personalities who, through their experience, demonstrated the importance of mastering multidisciplinary skills, a must today for the 34,000 advisors supervised by the CSF. These skills include using synthesis i. These speakers, with their unusual backgrounds, shared their perspectives for the benefit of participants:
- Farah Alibay, an aerospace engineer, spoke about using synthesis in complexity;
- Olivier Bernard, aka “Le Pharmachien”, discussed impactful communication;
- Sophie Brochu, manager, speaker and corporate director, spoke to members about what inspires her confidence; and
- Daniel Lamarre, Executive Vice President of the Board of Directors for Cirque du Soleil Group, spoke about the importance of using a client-centric approach.
“For the CSF's 25th anniversary, we wanted to create a truly unique professional development opportunity. We are pleased to have been able to bring together renowned academics and speakers to make this a high-calibre event that concretely supports advisors in their practice, inspires them and provides them with tools to meet their important obligations,” said Marie Elaine Farley, President and CEO of the CSF, adding that: “Our professional development strategy aims to democratize access to quality training for all members and support the development of professional practices.”
